The RYA Powerboat Advanced course is our most demanding course. Also the pinnacle of the RYA Powerboat scheme. 

 

Is the RYA Powerboat Advanced course right for me?

​

This course is for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips by day and night.

It includes navigation at planing speed, weather and other aspects of skippering powerboats on more challenging passages in coastal waters. Given the nature of these passages Advanced Powerboat courses should be delivered on powerboats of a minimum of 6 metres and an engine size sufficient to enable coastal passages at planing speed.

 

Previous experience?

 

Recommended that students hold RYA first aid and vhf certificates.

What will I learn?

​

Understanding buoyage and light characteristics is the key to safe passage planning at night. Time in our classroom creating safe plans and bringing in the earlier practical navigation skills ensures the correct preparation prior to our night passage. We run our passage plan and use advanced navigation to find various marks within the Liverpool Bay Area.

 

Course Itinerary

 

Your first day of powerboat training will begin with a full safety brief and introduction to the boats,You will then have time to familiarise yourself with the boat’s controls and the river environment before we start practising different manoeuvres.

This will all be done within the River Mersey, making it as real life as possible for when you decide to start boating solo. You will stop for lunch to cement your new found skills before we take back to the water for more slow speed

The second day will incude a night passage in darkness.
