The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is our most popular course. Clients include those that are new to powerboating, existing boat owners and students who would like to charter (hire) a powerboat either in the UK or abroad. At Marine and Site Training we include a free ICC assessment (International Certificate of Competence) which is the license required for European waters, and guidance on applying for this. 

 

Is the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course right for me?

The Powerboat Level 2 course is designed to give students an understanding of powerboating under the guidance of a highly experienced and qualified RYA powerboat instructor. This two day course focuses on developing your boat handling, safety and navigation skills. It is the perfect training course for complete beginners that will prepare you to take out a powerboat by yourself. However, it is also suitable for seasoned powerboaters looking to consolidate their experience with the principles of the RYA scheme.

 

Previous experience?

No this course is suitable for all students over the age of 12 years old.

Students under 16 will have their certificates endorsed as follows: “To be under the supervision of a responsible adult”.

 

What will I learn?

The RYA powerboat level 2 course will teach you about all aspects of boat handling, including: anchoring, securing to a mooring buoy, turning in confined spaces, coming alongside, man overboard techniques, knowledge of equipment, towing, high speed manoeuvres, rules of the road and pilotage and passage planning.

 

Course Itinerary

Your first day of powerboat training will begin with a full safety brief and introduction to the boats,You will then have time to familiarise yourself with the boat’s controls and the river environment before we start practising different manoeuvres.

This will all be done within the River Mersey, making it as real life as possible for when you decide to start boating solo. You will stop for lunch to cement your new found skills before we take back to the water for more slow speed manoeuvres.

The second day will start with a theory session before departing down the river for more manoeuvring,The second day will finish up with some high speed manoeuvres and man over board techniques before we depart back to our private slipway for course debriefing and certificates.
